Ibiza Beaches
IBIZA Beaches and Rocks
When it comes to Ibiza's beach life you'll be spoilt for choice. The island has nearly
60 beaches ranging from long sandy stretches packed with bars and water sports
to delightful hidden coves nestling at the foot of towering cliffs.
At the height of the summer, the temperature can soar above 30 degrees
centigrade and even the sea temperature nudges 30C. So there's no better place
to be than down at the beach.
More than 18 kilometers of beaches awaits you, allowing you to choose the
atmosphere, the winds and the activities you wish to practice in any of them.
There are beaches of all sorts - family, sporting, solitary, wild, tranquil, with deep
or shallow waters for children's bathing - it is for you to decide. Remember, the
island of Ibiza has an area of 572 square kilometers, and the greatest distances
by road are between 15 and 40 kilometers, so that all this is on hand, close to you.
The 18 kilometers are divided between 56 beaches distributed along the entire
coastline of Ibiza and thus, while you travel through countryside set off with the
remains of more than 2,600 years of history, you can choose, with the help of this
guide, the beach which best suits your personality or the needs of your family.
An island is like a boat and for this reason we recommend that at the start of the
day the first thing you should find out, before choosing a beach, is the direction of
the wind; if you are looking for a calm sea, go to the opposite side of the island
from the direction the wind is coming from, the leeward side in seaman's language;
on the other hand, if you want a sea with greater movement, more appropriate for
certain sports, go towards the part of the coast where the wind is coming from,
the windward in the language of the sea.
If you like snorkeling, don't take snails, crabs or any other marine animal; these
will be of no use to you, whereas they are needed by nature. Do not take hold of
fish with your hands as some species can produce painful stings if they feel threatened.
A holiday next to the sea, on the beach, sunbathing, is a pleasure sought by
millions of people. Remember to enjoy all the alternative things on offer in our
island.
Here are the most popular beaches on Ibiza:
Talamanca Beach
A long stretch of beach with shallow waters near the shore. It's a good family beach about a 15 minute walk from the port area
and Ibiza Town but there isn't a lot of shade so it's advisable
to take umbrella's and sun protection. Fun family activities include
windsurfing and banana boat rides.
Location: Ibiza Town, bordersTalamanca Bay
Cala Tarida Beach
Cala Tarida has the longest and widest beach of fine white sand on the western side of the island with a length of 275 meters
and a width of between 30-100 meters.
The clean, clear waters over a sandy bottom are shallow to quite a way out on the right, while deeper and rockier to the left.
The activities available includes a diving school where you can rent equipment and guidance for Scuba diving. You can also rent
pedal-boats, water beds, sun beds etc, as well. The Cala Tarida
beach is especially popular with families.
When you want to have breakfast, a snack or a simple meal to a
good price, you have the beach bar/restaurant Cala Tarida Chiringuito.
This place also has a little beachwear boutique.
If you want a fuller experience you can eat at Cas Milá"
a famous restaurant which is also located in Cala Tarida.
Las Salinas Beach
Las Salinas beach is arguably one of the most beautiful on the island. It's surrounded by the pine trees of Ibiza's Wildlife
Conservation Area and is certainly the place to be seen during
the summer months. It is frequented by the beautiful rich people
and you can certainly tell by the exclusive bars along the beach
that serve you cocktails to your sun bed. But the views and crystal
clear waters are worth it!
Location: Las Salinas, close to the salt lakes at the southern
most tip of the Island
Sa Caleta Beach
Sa Caleta beach is ideal for children because the waters are
shallow. It is popular with the local people and despite being
a little 'out of the way' it does manage to get quite busy. It
has some stunning jiggered coastline.
Location: East of Cala Jondal, on the road from the airport to Cala Jondal
Figueretas Beach
Central beach situated in the small suburb of Figueretas. There are a lot of apartments and hotels along this beach as well as
a beautiful promenade lined with palm trees, restaurants, bars
and lots of little stalls offering all sorts of things for tourists.
The only problem is that being a central beach it can get a little
busy, especially during the summer.
Location: Figueretas, near Ibiza Town
Playa d'en Bossa Beach
This is definitely the beach for the party people with numerous cafés and bars playing house music and serving vodka lemons.
It's the longest beach on the island and is quite popular with
windsurfers. Other activities include parasailing, diving and
volleyball but if you're not feeling particularly energetic then
head down towards the end of the beach furthers from Ibiza Town
where it's quieter with more of mellow atmosphere.
Location: d'en Bossa, near Ibiza Old Town
Es Cavallet Beach
This is an official nudist beach with beautiful sand dunes and nice, big waves for windsurfers to enjoy. It's a popular meeting
spot for gay men and it’s great for a stroll. There are some
music bars around playing mostly house music and volleyball is
the activity of choice.
Location: About 11km outside of Ibiza Town, near Salinas salt lagoons
